Examination and Promotion Rules

The school follows the examination and evaluation system as prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). For Classes IX and X, scholastic assessment is conducted strictly according to CBSE norms. Three written periodic tests are held during the academic session: the Pre-Mid Term examination in the first week of August, the Mid-Term examination in the first week of November, and the Post-Mid Term examination in the second week of January. For Classes IX and X, the average of the best two periodic tests is considered, and the final annual examination covering the complete syllabus is conducted in the month of March.

For Classes VI to VIII, the academic year is divided into two terms. Term I includes the Pre-Mid Term examination held in the first week of August and the Mid-Term (Half-Yearly) examination conducted in the first week of November. Term II includes the Post-Mid Term examination in the second week of January, followed by the Annual Examination in March. The syllabus for the annual examination comprises 10% of the Term I syllabus and the entire Term II syllabus for Class VI, 20% of the Term I syllabus and the entire Term II syllabus for Class VII, and 30% of the Term I syllabus and the entire Term II syllabus for Class VIII.

The assessment structure for Classes IX and X carries a weightage of 80% for the Annual Examination, 10% for Periodic Tests, 5% for Notebook Submission, and 5% for Subject-Related Enrichment Activities, making a total of 100%. For Classes VI to VIII, both Half-Yearly and Annual examinations carry 80% weightage, while Periodic Tests account for 10%, Notebook Submission 5%, and Subject Enrichment Activities 5%, totaling 100%. It is mandatory for all students to appear in every examination conducted during the academic session.

Notebook submission is assessed on the basis of regularity and punctuality (1 mark), completion of assignments (2 marks), and neatness and overall upkeep of the notebook (2 marks). Subject enrichment activities are conducted as follows: languages are assessed through speaking and listening skills; science through practical laboratory work; mathematics through lab activities; and social science through map work and project work.

Co-scholastic areas include Work Education, Art Education, and Health and Physical Education. Discipline is assessed on the basis of attendance, sincerity, behaviour, and values. Grading for Classes IX and X is done on a five-point scale from A to E for co-scholastic and discipline areas, while Classes VI to VIII follow a three-point grading scale from A to C.

Students are awarded grades for all tests, activities, and examinations on a nine-point grading scale: A1 (91–100), A2 (81–90), B1 (71–80), B2 (61–70), C1 (51–60), C2 (41–50), D (33–40), E1 (21–33), and E2 (below 20). A student of Class IX shall be promoted to the next class only if qualifying grades from A to D are obtained in all subjects as well as in the cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Students obtaining non-qualifying grades E1 or E2 will not be eligible for promotion.

As per CBSE rules, a student of Class X may be permitted to appear for an external Secondary Assessment only if he or she intends to leave the CBSE Board after Class X. In such cases, parents must submit a written application stating the reason on or before 31st August of the academic session. Otherwise, all students will be registered for school-based assessment only.

Promotion to Class XI is based on the combined weightage of class tests and three examinations, namely the First Term, Second Term, and Third Term examinations. A student must secure a minimum of 35% marks in each subject and an overall aggregate of 40% for promotion. Students who fail in the same class more than once will be required to leave the school. A minimum attendance of 75% during the academic year is compulsory; failing which, students will not be permitted to appear for the final examination. For Hindi-medium sections, examination and promotion rules shall be followed according to the norms prescribed by the State Board.
